I rediscovered something beautiful yesterday, slow Charging.

I’ve enjoyed using fast charging for getting quick top ups on my devices, but every time a product review comes out (especially for Pixel devices) it’s almost always called out for “not having fast enough charging”. And it actually does bother me, cuz I don’t want super blazing fast charging that could further degrade my devices battery more than it already is. Batteries in devices are already strained too much and too small to get any worse. I don’t understand why people want to have a piece of tech that degrades their experience much more quickly. I mean, I do get it and I might be misinformed about how damaging faster charging actually is, but I already feel anxiety about how warm/hot my device gets when charging at the pace others seem to think is sluggish (27W).

Then yesterday I was reminded of a beautiful concept that I hadn’t thought about in a while, and I’m surprised more people aren’t talking about it as an alternative or addition to fast charging. Maybe it doesn’t need to replace fast charging, cuz there are moments when getting a quick charge can be super helpful. But, especially for people who charge their device overnight (which seems like it’s most people), why burden it with a fast charge or a fancy “adaptive charging” mode when it could just get knocked down to a cozy slow charge and be ready for them when they wake up. Maybe that’s exactly what the adaptive charging does, but from when I’ve tested it, I felt like it still charges much too quickly.
