I’ve been exploring how to reduce (possibly remove) my reliance on “the mysterious cloud“. It’s consumed so much tech and I want something more simple. It’s gonna be an interesting and fun experiment! 😏

What even is a browser? And, why couldn’t the fediverse become the new “browser” for all the web or all digital content? Everyone could search the way they want on the device and app they want and browsers wouldn’t be so controlled by only a few players. It’s a cool idea to think about 🤔

I’ve been feeling super stuck lately, and not just in one area or in small things, but tons of places and areas of my life. My last post highlights some of this, and I hope to continue that conversation here.
I’ve just been frustrated recently with feeling like there’s too many conflicting systems in tech. Not enough of the pieces fit together. Like, why do I need a subscription to every news source, app, tv/movie provider, different audio sources, etc? And why don’t they talk with each other? I don’t want 5 apps to read content and 5 more to watch content and 5 others to post my ideas/content. I don’t want to follow people in multiple apps and keep up with tons of feeds. I understand it’s very complex and that many incredible things are in the works to change some of these things, but it feels like it’s so far away and I can’t really enjoy improved systems and better tech right now.
It’s also frustrating cuz it feels like there’s only so much I can do to get where I want to be. For example, I could build my own apps, create my own system of tech. That way I would be in control of the features, the integrations, the branding, and all the cool things I was to impact. But then, would I be able to connect with other people? And can I honestly replace all the necessary parts of my life with my own apps? It sounds like a huge burden to try and solve.
Is the Fediverse the answer to many of these things? How about AI? How about web3? Is there even an answer at all or am I focusing on questions that won’t go anywhere? I’m not sure.
Sometimes I really wanna give up on tech and design and try a totally different life, but I don’t even know what that looks like or what I would build and create then. I still love a lot of the systems and concepts I’ve built and I want to try to keep making them happen, but it’s also incredibly exhausting. 😮💨🫠

Some questions I’ve been wondering about…..
What can I do to measure success better? To celebrate consistency for the things I value and want in my life? How can I make patterned behaviors more enjoyable, invigorating and exciting? For example what could I do after exercising to celebrate my body and how amazing it is that I’m devoting energy to it every day? How can I measure the changes happening in my body even if they’re small and incremental?

Is it possible to find a place to work where people actually want to collaborate and do it consistently? I would really love to find a place like that. 😮💨

Maybe with this whole lawsuit against the Play Store, we could actually see Steam gaming come to Android? 🤔 I kinda doubt that Steam would now that they have SteamOS, but 🤷♂️ I would definitely be a fan!

Maybe this is a pipe dream, but what if Steam games were available to play on Android? Like, I understand the basics of why it’s not, but it could be incredibly cool, and has gotta be possible. 🤔
Or what if I didn’t have to have one app for Steam games and another for the Google Play Stores. What if they could both exist in the same space?

I’ve been thinking for a couple weeks now how wickedly cool it would be if WordPress offered some core animations with their block editor. That way I could choose the transitions between pages or even micro-interactions! 🤩 They could start simple with a basic ease in/out animation and one or 2 bounce styles or something like that, but even that would help things feel much more polished. ✨
It would definitely take WordPress to the next level and they’re gonna need stuff like that to stay relevant imo.

Imo, cultures are meant to be broken and rewritten. Something that always evolves and doesn’t get stuck in traditions or ways of thinking or acting. Which is tricky cuz cultures are usually built on shared understanding, beliefs, actions, and things that are more foundational and secure. So I don’t really know how a culture like that works but I think it can and I do it with my personal culture I think.
I think the things that can be solid and the shared understanding could be around how nothing is set in stone and things are always evolving. That the culture itself is meant to match the people rather than be rigid and force them into a box. I feel like that could totally work. I think it works for me but I don’t know if it would work for a group of people, or if I’m missing pieces still (probs). But fun to think about and write down cuz I’ve thought about it a LOT and it’s really valuable to me.

I wish when you set up a new Android device you could choose if you want the default proprietary setup or a super minimal setup without proprietary and locked apps and settings. Then, after setup you can add whatever custom things you want that work best for you. Idk all the details, but something like that would be cool!
