I want to start a weekly or other semi-regular post about the changes and explorations happening on One Quest. I feel it would be so much easier and more fun to both write and read. 😁 It also connects with other ideas I’ve been exploring for a while but haven’t quite figured out how to organize just yet. It’s getting close though! ✌️

After almost 2 years of struggling to find a community on WordPress.org, it feels really great to be shifting to WordPress.com! 🤩 Hopefully one day I can find an open source hosting alternative, but I finally feel like I have support and a space where I can join the conversation. I feel like I can breathe again and focus more my digital identity and experience! I have a sound board where I can go when I’m blocked and move past issues rather than getting stuck. Will it last? We’ll see.
Another benefit is that WordPress already requires a WordPress and Gravatar account for certain features (at the moment). Hopefully one day these things will be better on WordPress.org and across the open social web! 😁

Since the beginning of creating this digital experience that is “One Quest” I’ve been so excited to craft a space that helps me share what I’m creating, exploring, and questioning in real time. I think it’s so cool to follow along on people’s journeys of exploration and creation. But it can be difficult to do that if all you get is long form posts every once in a while. There’s so much that happens in the in between of those posts and so many smaller pieces that lead to those polished artifacts of design! That’s what I want to showcase with One Quest. I’m still planning to have longer articles that dive deep into a specific area, and I think these two things will compliment each other really well. It’s something I’ve felt is missing from my design documentation/posts, and also something I would be so stoked to see more people in the design space adopt so that we can enjoy each others amazing creations more frequently. I also like that it’s a way to get into the rougher pieces of design. Random sketches, notes, questions and all sorts of things as they’re forming.
I’ve been exploring calling this space “Runes”, because it’s like a tiny piece of magic or spells. I don’t know if this will be the permanent name and I’m still lost with how to organize it alongside other post types and formats right now.
We’ll see if I can get there. I think I can. But this post is a reminder and a relief for myself to be okay with it not being what I want yet. To let myself breathe and also to keep pushing for what I want to to be when the pieces are in place. Soon….very soon!

Testing a post without a title since the Fediverse apps handle titles inconsistently and honestly I don’t think they should ever show up on Fediverse platforms. I use them as signifiers on WordPress and visual cues across UI sometimes.

Beyond stoked that desktop mode is finally officially confirmed!!! 🔥🔥 It’s been a long journey and seems like it will deffffffinitely be worth the wait. 🤩 Soon I’ll be able to turn the janky setup I’ve been using into something so beautiful.🤞

I’m learning how I want to format posts on WordPress much better so that not only the metadata is better, but also Fediverse compatibility.
For example, I didn’t know that if I change the post format to “image” or “video” that it automatically shows up on Fedi apps like Pixelfed which are built for image and video posts. I was worried that any posts with photos would show up on Pixelfed (or similar) and I’m super impressed with how this is implemented. All post types seem to show up on Mastodon which is cool. I wish these details were more clear and that the WordPress ActivityPub experience was more refined, but we’ll get there I hope. 😅🤞
I’m gonna keep exploring these pieces so that the experience for both my domain and across the Fedi is as great as it can be! 😎

I’m really trying to figure out what I want to do with tags, categories, and authors on One Quest. There’s quite a few options and I’ve already explored some. I’d like to keep a simple system and not have to navigate tons of categories and tags, I think……
It’s a lot of complexity to wrangle, but I’m givin it all I’ve got! 💪😮💨

What if I created my own computer company called Pocket and made the kinds of devices I want to see and use?? Could be soooo cool
What would I want to see?
- No wireless charging
- Only 60hz screens
- Cuz honestly I cannot tell a difference and above that takes more battery
- And I’m guessing it’s more expensive and uses more materials and resources, etc.
- I’ve also had my computer at 1080p resolution for years and I’m super happy with that
- I’m never like “oh man that screen looks blurry” or “I really wish those pixels were more clear”.
- Don’t care about super fast charging or really anything above about 30W
- Unless the tech has improved drastically, it also degrades batteries much faster and I’m not here for it
- I don’t remember the last time I really needed my device to charge suuuuper fast anyway. I’m trying to create a life that avoids that kind of pressure
- But I defffff want a bigger battery
- So that hopefully I don’t have to charge my computer every day 🤞
- Also a replaceable battery 🤩

One of the most challenging parts about what I’m creating with One Quest is that I’m not just designing components, creating a brand or writing articles. I’m doing all of that while also trying to understand how my brand and digital identity fits within the broader tech ecosystem. I’m doing all of that while pushing myself to figure out how to build it all with one device, and it’s my Android computer/”phone”. I’m creating systems for content creation like image editing, photo editing, file organization and naming, and more.
It’s a very fun playground, and a very challenging one. 🧐

I’ve been really enjoying Funkwhale and Qobuz after finally opening accounts for them! 🤩 I’ve been researching them and keeping my eyes on them for a while now and decided to dive in. 🌊
Since signing up for Qobuz I also started a bit of a deep dive on hi-res audio since they offer hi-res audio tracks. I wanted to understand if I really need to upgrade all my music cuz I’ve never been dissatisfied with music in the past and think it sounds really beautiful. Even with my plebian setup of non hi-res audio and basic earbuds. 🤠 It’s such a complex little niche of the universe that I’ve been curious about for a long time. I know I’ve only barely scratched the surface, but I got what I needed.
I also love the concept of Funkwhale SO MUCH! I’m really enjoying testing it out and designing a possible future where it’s my home for music and all things audio. 🔥🔥 It’s been really fun exploring the experience and design too and discovering many UX pitfalls and adjustments to be made. But I’m gonna wait for Funkwhale 2.0 to see how much of it is improved. It’s supposed to be quite a lot! 🤷♂️ But it’s such a fun twist on music and I’ve always wanted to make my music more social so I really hope the improvements around federation are solid! 🤞
